Wearable items are not covered

By their very nature, used cars will have used parts on them. While we try our very best to ensure that the vehicles we sell are safe and reliable, there must be a reasonable expectation from you, as the customer that vehicles will always need some for of repair and maintenance in your ownership period. Typically, the older/more miles the car has covered, the more it will need moving forward. When coming to view a vehicle for sale, please take the time to inspect and drive it so you are fully satisfied with the car before proceeding. The warranty we provide does not cover wearable items. If you are not happy with the wearable items (tyres, brakes, exhaust, air conditioning gas, batteries et al.) on the car, please speak to us about you concerns prior to purchase or do not proceed with the purchase. Post purchase, any wearable items that need replacing on the vehicle are responsibility on the owner/keeper and not Richard Preston motors or the warranty company.

When a claim is submitted to the warranty company, and the cost of the repair eclipse’s the £500 covered by the warranty then it is the responsibility or the keeper/owner to cover any shortfall, not Richard Preston motors or the warranty company. Please remember, you have purchased a used car. It is fair and reasonable to expect that it also has used parts fitted at the time of purchase. When a repair is carried out on a car, typically, new parts are fitted. Due to this fact, this would be classed as ‘betterment’ as you are now receiving something newer/ less worn than you originally purchased. This is why a limit is imposed on the warranty.

It is possible to extended the warranty on the vehicle to a limit of £1000 and/or 12 months coverage (subject to vehicle age/type and mileage). Please speak to us for more information.

Please note that cars that over 100,000 miles and/or over 16 years old at the point of sale, the warranty will only cover the engine and gearbox for component failure and not the items listed below
